The contract: Off road Haulage

Utilising a fleet of high payload 230T haulage combinations travelling 18km’s each way, Bis hauled bauxite from the operation’s Rocky Bay Pit to the Rocky Bay ROM for processing through the site crusher.

A day shift only resourcing strategy aided in delivering a compelling employee value proposition whilst still meeting Rio Tinto’s production requirements in a safe and cost-efficient manner. 

Rio Tinto is the largest employer in the Gove region and Bis will actively support its local community engagement, procurement, and employment initiatives as part of the contract delivery.

The Gove operation has been supplying the global aluminium industry with world-class bauxite since 1971. It produces 11.8Mt which is shipped internationally, as well as domestically to supply refineries in Gladstone, QLD.

These refineries produce alumina as feedstock for our Australian aluminium smelting operations and for sale on the international market.
