Appointed Chairman of Bis in July 2018.
Graeme brings a wealth of experience to Bis gained from senior leadership and governance roles across the resources, industrial services and power sectors. This has included roles as Managing Director of Broadspectrum and Lihir Gold. Graeme was a senior executive within BHP during a career spanning 30 years, culminating in roles which included President Iron Ore, President Aluminium and President Uranium.
Graeme currently serves as Chairman of AGL Energy (since 2017), and Chair of the National Resources Science Precinct and the Western Australian Energy Research Alliance (since 2012). He previously held a Director role with Broadspectrum Limited (formerly known as Transfield Services Limited) from 2012 until 2016.
Brad RogersChief Executive Officer
Appointed Chief Executive Officer of Bis in December 2015.
Brad has been a key member of the Bis leadership team since 2008, including five years as Chief Financial Officer. He has also led the company’s corporate development and commercial functions.
Prior to joining Bis, Brad was General Manager Corporate Development at GRD Limited, where he was responsible for group strategy, business incubation, corporate finance and investor relations. Additionally, he led GRD’s Global Renewables operating business in Australia and Asia for three years. Earlier in his career Brad worked in management positions in the consulting practices of Mainsheet Corporate and Arthur Andersen.
Emma SteinNon-Executive Director
Appointed Non-Executive Director in December 2018.
Emma Stein is currently serving as Non-Executive Director of ASX50 Company Alumina Limited as well as other non-executive roles including Cleanaway, Worley, Infigen Energy Limited and Todd Corporation.
Emma’s executive career involved senior roles in prominent oil and gas companies in the United Kingdom, including roles as UK Managing Director for British Fuels’ Gas Division and UK Managing Director for Gaz de France Energy.
Throughout her career she has amassed experience in the resources, oil and gas and energy sectors. She brings a wealth of knowledge in commercial and strategic matters to the Board.
David GrayNon-Executive Director
Appointed Non-Executive Director of Bis in June 2019.
David Gray is the CEO and Managing Director at Insight Capital Advisors, an independent capital markets and corporate advisory firm. Prior to founding Insight Capital Advisors, Mr Gray was a Managing Director and Head of Equity Capital Markets at J.P. Morgan in Australia and prior to that was a Managing Director and Head of Equity Capital Markets at Deutsche Bank in Australia.
He has also held other senior executive positions at UBS and Siemens. Mr Gray brings a wealth of knowledge to the position, with over 25 years’ experience across investment banking, independent advisory and financial markets. He has been involved in more than 300 advisory roles and capital raisings.
Mr Gray has relevant industry experience having advised extensively in the energy, mining, resources services and transport logistics sectors. Mr Gray has served on the Board of J.P. Morgan Australia, was a Non-Executive Director of ASX listed Consolidated Operations Group and is a member of The Australian Institute of Company Directors(AICD).
Ian B. JacksonNon-Executive Director
Appointed Non-Executive Director of Bis in January 2018.
Ian Jackson is a Managing Director and Co-Head of Carlyle Strategic Partners, focusing on unique investment opportunities. He is based in London. Prior to joining Carlyle, Mr. Jackson was a Director and senior analyst with Deutsche Bank, investing across the capital structure from senior secured debt to equity.
Prior to that, Mr. Jackson spent five years working for Deutsche Bank’s Japanese Group in Tokyo acquiring portfolios and trading Yen-denominated corporate bonds into U.S./European clients.
Mr. Jackson currently serves on the Board of Directors of Nationwide Accident Repair Services and Akari Care Group. Mr. Jackson formerly served on the Board of Directors of Brintons Carpets Limited, Sterling LLC and was the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of both Klenk Holz AG and KAP Beteiligungs AG.
Merrill GouldingNon-Executive Director
Appointed Non-Executive Director of Bis in January 2018.
Merrill Goulding is a Managing Director with Carlyle Strategic Partners. He is based in London. Mr. Goulding currently serves on the Board of Directors of Nationwide Accident Repair Services and Akari Care Group. Prior to joining Carlyle, Mr. Goulding was an Executive Director at Goldman Sachs in London, where he principally focused on investments across the capital structure.
Prior to Goldman Sachs, Mr. Goulding was employed by Cerberus European Capital Advisors in London. He has served on a number of boards as director or observer. Mr. Goulding began his career at Lazard & Co. in London.
Sandeep ChandakNon-Executive Director
Appointed Non-Executive Director of Bis in January 2018.
Sandeep K Chandak is a Managing Director in the Asia Corporate and Traded Credit team. Based in Singapore, he joined the firm in 2016.
Prior to joining Värde, Sandeep was a Director at Deutsche Bank AG in Hong Kong trading Asia-Pacific trading loans and bonds for over a decade.
Michael PorterChief Operating Officer
Michael Porter was appointed Chief Operating Officer in 2014.
Michael was appointed Chief Operating Officer in 2014. His experience in cultivating customer relationships and growing Australian and Indonesian operations through customer focused and industry leading delivery solutions continues to be crucial to Bis’ success.
With a career spanning more than 20 years at Bis, Michael is highly regarded for delivering step change, operational growth, strong financial performance and continuous improvement across our operations.
Steve SimpsonChief Financial Officer
Appointed Chief Financial Officer in 2015.
Since joining Bis in 2002, he has been instrumental in establishing the stand alone business capability of Bis following its exit from Brambles, and leading transactions such as the divestment of the Cleanaway business and the acquisitions of the Gulf Group and Powertrans.
Prior to Bis, Steve worked for BHP Billiton for 14 years in a variety of senior financial management positions and across multiple commodities including steel, petroleum, iron ore and coal.
Todd PeateChief Development Officer
Appointed Chief Development Officer in 2020.
Todd Peate was appointed Chief Development Officer in 2020. He has responsibility for Bis’ innovation pipeline, its engineering capabilities and its business development, corporate development and corporate affairs functions.
Todd is an experienced international mining technology and operations executive with a strong focus on new and innovative ways of working. Prior to Bis, Todd worked for Orica, where for 10 years he held strategic and operational roles including President Director of Indonesia, Vice President of Global Marketing and most recently, Vice President Australia Pacific.
Richard BarleyChief People And Sustainability Officer
Appointed Chief People & Sustainability Officer in 2021.
Richard joined Bis in 2010 and performed several key People and Culture roles before being appointed as Chief People and Sustainability Officer in 2021. Prior to Bis, he worked for Southern Railway Limited in London.
A successful change driver, Richard is an accomplished leader who is passionate about creating value through functional support and partnership. Richard believes in growing leadership capability, employee wellbeing and employee experience. Richard holds a Masters of Science (Human Resource Management) from London South Bank University and a Bachelor of Science from University of Portsmouth.
He is a graduate of the University of Michigan’s School of Business Strategic Leaders program, Melbourne Business School’s Leading for Strategic Success programme and the Australian Institute of Company Directors’ Company Directors Course.
Tiki McLennanGeneral Counsel
Joined Bis in 2019.
As General Counsel, Tiki provides strategic legal advice on material contracts across the business, corporate and compliance matters and manages the conduct and resolution of disputes.
Her role involves evaluating commercial and legal risks and opportunities across the business and ensuring mitigation strategies are implemented and ensuring that legal activities are conducted in accordance with Bis’ corporate governance framework.
Prior to Bis, Tiki held senior legal roles at Wesfarmers and Lehman Brothers. She started her career at Herbert Smith Freehills. She holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Arts (Politics and History) from the University of Western Australia and is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators.
Andrew ProutPresident Director Of Pt Bis Industries
Joined Bis in 2010.
Andrew’s integrated expertise spans operational, functional and corporate specialities. Since joining Bis in 2010, Andrew has held senior positions in corporate development, finance and operations.
He has had a successful track record of introducing new products and services into Indonesia and understands the unique conditions and opportunity that operating in Indonesia represents.
Prior to joining Bis Andrew spent six years at Ernst & Young where he specialised in transaction advisory services. Andrew holds a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Commerce from Murdoch University, a Graduate Diploma of Applied Finance and Investment from Finsia, and is a graduate of the International Company Directors Course from Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Mark DoyleGeneral Manager – Underground
Joined Bis in 2006.
An underground expert, Mark joined Bis in 2006 and has held several key roles, specialising in Underground, including maintenance and field services, business development, operational portfolios.
His knowledge of operations management, lean, quality, workplace safety contributes to a deep understanding customer’s pain points has been integral in his ability to identify and add value at every stage of the mining life cycle.
Prior to joining Bis, Mark held maintenance and reliability superintendent roles at OneSteel. Mark holds a Graduate Certificate in Competitive Systems and Practices (Lean Methodology) from Swinburne University of Technology.
Giles EverestGeneral Manager - Goldfields And South West
Joined Bis in 2017.
With a diverse operations background, Giles has held senior management and executive positions in mining, construction, logistics and manufacturing organisations.
Prior to joining Bis in 2017, Giles spent six years with Fleetwood in multiple management roles, after tenures spanning two decades with K&S Transport Emoleum (Works Infrastructure) and Brambles.
Giles is passionate about safety and is committed to continuous improvement to drive safety performance and to exceed customer expectations. He has a Master of Business Administration from the University of Western Australia.
Russel GattGeneral Manager Operations - Indonesia
Joined Bis in 2014.
As General Manager Operations in Indonesia, Russel has played a key role in building our regional capabilities.
He was one of the first employees in our Indonesian operation in 2014 and has been central in creating the local team, establishing our safety culture, nurturing our customer relationships and procurement network and exploring new opportunities.
A passionate and commercially accomplished professional, Russel held various operational and business development roles at Emeco and Volvo prior to joining Bis.
Ivan McleodGeneral Manager - North West
Joined Bis in 2018.
Ivan joined Bis in 2018 with significant industry experience, gained from rail freight operator Aurizon where he held several roles over 10 years including business management, general management and operational management the company’s Iron ore and Bulk West portfolios.
Ivan initially oversaw Bis’ customer and market strategies, before moving into operations. His has a demonstrated track record of delivering strong operational and financial performance in complex operating environments whilst ensuring the highest level of safety and customer satisfaction.
Ivan holds a Doctor of Philosophy and a Bachelor of Rural Science from the University of New England.
Drew SargeantGeneral Manager - North East
Joined Bis in 2013.
Drew has extensive operational and commercial experience from various industrial services and mining organisations. His ability to understand and crystallise a customer’s needs is central to his success.
On joining Bis in 2013, Drew has held several responsibilities, including overseeing the commercial management function covering all operations across eastern Australia, including specific projects within our underground business.
Drew holds a Master of Business Administration from the Australian Graduate School of Management and a Bachelor of Engineering, Chemical Engineering, from The University of Queensland.
Hadyn ShepherdGeneral Manager - South East
Joined Bis in 2012.
Haydn Shepherd has been an integral part of the Bis management team since joining in 2012. His operational expertise in development mining, supply chain processing, quality, business processes and integrated planning, coupled with commodity technical knowledge, particularly steel, has been significant.
Prior to joining Bis, Haydn held senior leadership roles at Arrium across manufacturing, supply chain and the planning execution of the Peculiar Knob operation. He also spent five years at OneSteel where his managerial roles spanned integration, production services and manufacturing.
Hadyn holds a Master of Business Administration from University of Wales and a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours), Mechanical Engineering from University of Bath.
Alex MechineauCompany Secretary And Treasurer
Joined Bis in 2011.
As Treasurer and Company Secretary, Alexandre (Alex) plays a key role informing the financial and investment decisions of the business, as well as administering and supporting the business of the Bis Board [link].
Before joining Bis in 2011, Alex held a range of financial advisory, operational and relationship management roles at Thales and ANZ in Australia, and prior to that, HSBC in Paris.
A registered Charted Accountant, Alex is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD) and the ESSCA School of Management in France.
