Bis’ inaugural Indonesian female operators’ trainee program has proved successful, with 100% of participants graduating from the program.
The program was run in Indonesia at our Gunung Bara Utama (GBU) site in Melak where we provide haulage and road maintenance services for our customer.
A graduation ceremony was held for the five female trainee operators who have spent the past six months acquiring a range of skills including how to operate water cart and water pump vehicles; comply with Bis safety processes and procedures; and learn the important role of communication for consolidated hard rock operations.
At the end of the program, Bis worked with the graduates to provide permanent opportunities and career paths. Of those who graduated, 60% will now progress to driving Bis’ double-combination, single-powered road trains.
Bis Project Manager Edi Sobrin said the aim of the program was to inspire more women to enter the resources industry, focusing on attracting women from the local community.
“This program has a positive impact on the lives of individual women and the community, and at the same time – is helping us to improve diversity within our company,” he said.
Due to its success, Bis is hosting another program for trainees next month, and looks forward to welcoming more female operators into our Indonesian operations.
Bis’ commitment to diversity and inclusion across its national and global workforce is further reflected by the development of the Girls Rocking Resources program, which is aimed at introducing young women to the broad range of career opportunities available within the Australian resources industry.
