Humans of Bis – Yvette

Yvette is the kind of operator with an appetite for personal growth, the willingness to learn new things and make her mark in anything she sets her mind to. Her secret to maintaining her high energy? Lollies.

Meet Yvette Broun, Plant Operator at the Roy Hill mine site. She joined Bis in 2020, eager to learn new skills and grow with a company at a new site.

Part of the drawcard, Yvette was excited to be able to operate the first Komatsu WA900-8 loaders in Australia, as part of our contract with the world-class iron ore miner.

But nothing comes without its challenges. Being a new project, and one that was mobilised in record time, when the first crews arrived on site in the Pilbara, they were met with a bare site. It was day one and many of our facilities were still under construction, but this did not stand in the way from Yvette’s motivation to work hard and grasp the opportunity with both hands.

We are making things happen and can look back with pride at what we have all achieved.”

Yvette’s typical day involves operating T1250 side tippers with a 140 tonne payload, operating WA900-8 and Cat 992K loaders for both truck loading and stockpile management, as well as assisting the rest of the crew as they need.

When we asked what the one item she can’t live without on site, her answer was simple – lollies.

“I just have to have a good assortment to keep everyone going. The crew always know I have them stashed somewhere!”
