Humans of Bis - Meet Sophie
Since joining Bis in September 2023, Sophie has made her mark as a driven and adaptable administrator with a passion for staying organised under pressure.
She began her journey at the Osborne Park office, supporting WA site-based admin teams and playing a key role in coordinating mobilisations for Murrin Murrin. By early 2024, she had stepped up to become the WA Site Admin Team Lead before transitioning full-time to the Karara site in August.
At Karara, Sophie wears many hats. From day-to-day admin tasks and managing payroll and rosters to mobilising new starters, coordinating contractor visits, handling purchasing and accounts, and ensuring communication flows smoothly across site, she thrives in the busy, ever-changing rhythm of site life.
Her strengths lie in time management, prioritisation, and clear communication, but Sophie believes the key to success in her role is all about mindset.
“A positive attitude really makes a difference, especially when you’re working in a remote environment and away from home. We all support each other.”
Sophie takes pride in the milestones she and her teams have achieved, especially Karara reaching a Total Recordable Injury Frequency Rate of zero over 365 days, and the strong collaboration across the Osborne Park admin team during a time of transition. Her promotion to team lead remains a standout moment, symbolising her commitment to continuous growth.
One of the biggest tests of that resilience came during a company-wide cyberattack. With systems offline and a shutdown looming, Sophie and the team had to think on their feet. They relied on patchy mobile hotspots for connectivity, manually recovered documents, and negotiated with suppliers to release critical equipment, despite having no purchase orders or guarantees of payment.
Even after systems were restored, the recovery wasn’t immediate. The backlog was intense, and incoming work didn’t slow down. But through extra hours, collaboration, and shared determination, they got through it, stronger and more united.
Outside of work, Sophie is focused on improving her fitness and making the most of her rest and recuperation. Time off is usually spent with family and friends, going to the beach, heading to the gym, or unwinding with a glass of wine and takeaway on her first night off.
If she had an alter ego, Sophie says she’d be a private investigator, her love for problem-solving and working under pressure makes that easy to imagine. She draws daily inspiration from her parents, whose strength and hard work have shaped her approach to life and work.
To Sophie, success is the feeling of genuine achievement. Whether it’s supporting her team through challenges or helping everything on site run that little bit more smoothly, she’s motivated by making a meaningful contribution and bringing a little more positivity to every day.
