Humans of Bis - Meet Melissa

Meet Melissa, Bis' Workers Compensation Insurance Services (WCIS) Lead.

As the WCIS Lead, Melissa oversees the WCIS team and oversees all aspects of injury management across the company. Her role encompasses rehabilitation, claims management, and early intervention for injured workers, ensuring they receive the best care and support throughout their recovery journey.

On a typical day, she spends her time liaising with internal stakeholders, including workers, the safety team, and operations leaders, as well as connecting externally with treatment providers such as doctors, physiotherapists, and rehabilitation specialists.

"It’s a dynamic and rewarding role that allows me to work collaboratively with a variety of teams and individuals."

The opportunity to interact with a diverse range of people is one of the aspects Melissa enjoys most about her position.

"Every interaction brings a new perspective and reinforces the collaborative culture that makes Bis such a great place to work."

She says it’s particularly satisfying to contribute to an environment where the well-being of workers is a top priority and where continuous improvement is both encouraged and supported.
It’s perhaps no surprise then that Melissa’s journey at Bis has been one of growth and learning. Since joining the company in 2021, she has continued to deepen her knowledge of relevant legislation concerning state and federal schemes, and upskilled in areas critical to her role.

Speaking of Bis' commitment to invest in and support employees' career progression, Melissa says: “This support has allowed me to continually advance and refine my expertise.”

For 2025, Melissa has a few big projects lined up. For example, she’s keen to build stronger connections with stakeholders and workers by making regular trips to Bis offices and workshops in Paget (QLD), Tomago (NSW), and Cardiff (NSW). She’ll also be diving deeper into self-insurance license requirements to help Bis to keep everything running smoothly.

Meanwhile, outside of work, Melissa recently bought her first home and is now gearing up for a series of renovations to make it truly her own.

Exciting times ahead. Congratulations, Melissa!
