Humans of Bis | Meet Josh

Meet Josh, Workshop Manager at our Jaxam Workshop in Cardiff, NSW. In this Humans of Bis edition, we hear talks about his leadership philosophy, career challenges, what his superpower would be, and why his father, an Olympic gold medalist, is his greatest inspiration.

Josh’s journey with Bis began in 2018 when he joined the business as an apprentice. Since then, he has continually grown within the company, taking on new challenges and responsibilities. Originally from the UK, Josh found his way to Bis through family connections after migrating, and he hasn’t looked back since.

At the Jaxam workshop, Josh oversees operations focused on maintaining the Bis Driftrunner fleet while also handling external work for site customers.

His leadership philosophy centers around strong interpersonal skills and fostering a positive work culture. To him, the key to success is attracting the best people to his team and continuously improving processes.

More than anything, Josh takes pride in his team's morale.

“If my team is happy to come to work and motivated to put out a good product, then I know I’m doing the right things to drive success in my workshop.”

He firmly believes in a team-first mentality: “We fail together, succeed together, and learn together every day.”

One of the biggest challenges in his career came when he was tasked with bringing consistency to a rapidly changing environment at the Paget Workshop in Mackay, QLD. With a young family at home, the constant travel between states proved mentally and physically exhausting. However, the experience provided him with invaluable skills and relationships which have shaped his approach as a manager.

Josh is passionate about continuous growth, both professionally and personally. He is keen on developing his business acumen and improving his leadership skills within Bis.

Outside of work, he is deeply invested in health and fitness. Whether he’s at the gym, playing tennis, or spending time at the beach with his family, staying active is a crucial part of his life.

A firm believer in steady progress, Josh embraces the philosophy that “Rome wasn’t built in a day”.

“I don’t have to make drastic changes in a short space of time, but if I can look back 6-12 months and be happy with the progress, then I know I’m on the right track.”

He values learning from every experience and is always striving for self-improvement. With a love for leadership and fitness podcasts, court case dramas, and fantasy novels, he continues to seek knowledge and inspiration from a broad spectrum of sources.

His greatest inspiration? His father, an Olympic gold medalist in 1988, who set an extraordinary example of dedication and perseverance. Now, as a father himself, Josh cherishes watching his daughters experience life, finding joy in both the challenges and special moments of parenthood.

If he could have one superpower, it would be teleportation—to explore his bucket list destinations without the hassle of travel time. But for now, he remains focused on building his career, maintaining balance, and making meaningful progress every step of the way.
