Share Her Story | Celebrating International Women's Day 2025
Celebrated globally on March 8th, International Women's Day (IWD) honors the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women.
It’s an opportunity to reflect on progress, mobilise for meaningful change and celebrate the courage of women who have shaped history.
Within Bis, we are committed to achieving equal representation and continue to focus on fostering a diverse, inclusive workplace where women are not only present but also hold key leadership and decision-making roles, with females making up 50% of our Executive team.
As part of our commitment to gender equality and inclusion, we wanted to make this year’s International Women’s Day more personal and meaningful within our Bis community.
We invited our employees to share inspiring stories of women – colleagues, partners, family, or mentors – whose achievements had a lasting impact on them.
The submissions are a reminder of strength, resilience, and courage and leadership that women possess—and how they continue to shape our world for the better.
By amplifying these, we hope to encourage others to take a moment to reflect on the women in our lives who step up, who have our backs, who reimagine their future, and who keep the plates spinning — often behind the scenes.
The Rising Leader
First we heard from Ian, Workshop Manager at Paget, who shared with us the deep respect he gained for a fellow co-worker: Angelina recently stepped into the leadership role of Purchasing & Warehousing Supervisor to cover a maternity leave. While facing the pressures of onboarding new employees, she showed tremendous maturity, resilience, smart decision-making and emotional intelligence while navigating the complexities of the role.
Her experience is a reminder that good leadership can come in many forms but is always built on trust, empathy, and an ability to seek guidance when needed.
The Selfless Caregiver
In Tomago, Kerri, Bis’ Purchasing Officer, shared the moving story of her mother, who dedicated decades to raising her family before facing the heartbreaking task of caring for her son and later her husband through their battles with cancer. Her unwavering dedication, strength, and compassion carried her through, showing what it truly means to put the needs of others first. It’s a poignant reminder of the power of unconditional love and compassion in the face of grave adversity.
"My mother has shown me during these hard times how to handle death and grief with dignity and grace and, importantly, how to continue on with life and love."
The Visionary Entrepreneur
Michael, Bis’ Solutions Manager, shared the journey of his partner who built a highly successful design and consultancy business from the ground up. Her vision and drive have not only transformed her own life but have also motivated countless others—both men and women—to chase their own dreams. Her success continues to change the trajectory of many lives.
“She has inspired me to take more risks in my career and life.”
The Trailblazer
Over in Perth, WA, Bis’ Digital Marketing Specialist, Rebecca, recounted the inspiring journey of her mother who, in her 30s, made the courageous decision to return to university while balancing a full-time job and supporting a teenage daughter. Despite the challenges, she successfully forged a new professional path and built a thriving career. It’s a powerful reminder that it’s never too late to change direction and that hard work, determination, and perseverance can overcome any obstacle.
“It’s never too late to pursue our dreams, and with resilience, we can balance personal responsibilities while advancing in our careers.”
The Powerhouse at Work and Home
Finally, Luke, a Bis Spraypainter, spoke of his deep admiration for his wife’s deft ability to balance work, family, and self. As a mother of two and a Suncorp & GIO Contact Centre Manager, she juggles her responsibilities with grace, style, and a touch of sass — whether it is creating special moments for her daughters, keeping their home running smoothly, or leading her team with confidence.
Her story is a reminder that leadership isn’t just about results; it’s about leading with strength and compassion, and managing with heart, resilience, and authenticity.
