Razor wins coveted mining industry product launch award

Bis’ proprietary underground grader, Razor – one of the latest instalments from the Bis expanding innovation pipeline – took out its first industry accolade at the Queensland Mining Awards last night.

Razor won the Best Product Launch category amidst stiff competition at the Mackay event which was co-hosted by the Queensland Resources Council & Bowen Basin Mining Club.

Commenting on the award win, Bis General Manager – Underground Services, Mark Doyle, said winning this award is further testament to the industry’s demand for improved operator safety, ergonomics and exceptional grader performance.

‘Designing, manufacturing and launching the first new grader to come into the market in 20 years was an ambitious undertaking, but we were confident in the industry’s appetite for it.

‘It is a long overdue game-changer and the response to it continues to very positive.’

‘When we were planning its launch, we knew taking it on a customer roadshow – allowing customers to get up close and inspect it – was critical not only for the initial market familiarisation phase, but also for its ongoing design and engineering evolution.’

The key features of Razor include superior engine power and grader mass that has been optimised to increase tractive effort by over 30%. Bis designed the grader with safety front-of-mind, resulting in a modular drivers’ cabin which improves ergonomics and a safer, more reliable, braking system.

Razor is currently in Mackay before heading out to an underground customer site in the Bowen Basin to begin its first operational role.
