The contract: Haulage

Bis delivers essential load and haul services to PT Gunung Bara Utama (GBU) as part of its East Kalimantan coal mine operations.

Core to the long term contract is the specialised off-road haulage of coal from the GBU mine to the barge loading facility located 60km east on the Mahakam river.

Additionally, Bis conducts critical road maintenance services to the same stretch of road.

The Bis team works closely with PT Gunung Bara Utama to deliver safe, efficient and innovative solutions across the contract.

Key project achievements

Female operators program

Bis welcomed the inaugural intake of female operational trainees to our East Kalimantan operation in late 2019, as part of a new traineeship program targeted at increasing female participation in our Indonesian business.

After completing training on various auxiliary equipment, the five trainees successfully graduated from the six-month course in April 2020. The operators are now receiving further training to operate Bis’ high payload road trains on site.

The program marks another important step towards growing diversity throughout our business.
